Showcase: Oldhammer Blood Angels army

In my travels across the internet I stumbled across a fantastic Oldhammer Blood Angels army that deserves some wider attention.

While the creator remains anonymous, I was able to get both permission to post here and a link to their photo drive containing a treasure trove of pictures beyond what had initially caught my eye.

The original pictures that were so eye catching were the army parade photos.

When asked for details on the display board, the creator replied with:

I originally built it for Armies On Parade in 2014. Since today’s amazing modern camera phones with sixteen lenses didn’t exist back then, I also took the photographs at my favorite local GW store for AOP each year and shared them with the manager. Now of course, we all have phones better than my old out-dated camera, and there was a global pandemic in between, so a lot has changed.

It’s a slab of hardboard with pink panther foam insulation on top to form the preen green golf course; the small hillocks are made of the same foam cut with an electric hot knife. I painted the insulation with cheap craft store acrylic – the colour I used for my base rims – before gluing down the flock.

All the models are counter-sunk – ie, there’s a shallow hole drilled into the foam where each one stands. Some of the more top-heavy models like the Devastators also have a steel washer situated at the bottom of their holes and magnets glued under the bases to help present them from toppling over during handling.

I’ve updated it a few times over the years – added some models here or there, replaced the cardstock Second Edition Battle Bunker with a plastic Imperial Bastion, and so on – but most of the models typically situated on it are the same ones that have been there for years.

There are a number of very cool classic marines to gawk at. Everything from tactical marines, to dreadnoughts, to terminators, and even a few oddballs like assassins and servitors. Let’s get to the collection.
