Warhammer 40k 2e battle between Iron Snakes and Space Orks.

The pictures and battle report were provided by the owner of the Iron Snakes space marines. I’ve simply cleaned up the formatting. Enjoy.

This battle is a followup to a skirmish the Iron Snakes had against the orks who had tried to sneak through their lines. The orks had retreated while the Iron Snakes consolidated their position to wait for the inevitable mass attack.

The wait ended when the orks formed up en masse just beyond some crumbling Imperial monastery ruins. The marines anchored their right with the old overgrown chapel and
formed a battle line extending to the high ground of an old generator shed. The ork raiders were spotted coming in down from the hills beyond.

The marine plan was to draw the orks through two fire
corridors to eliminate them piecemeal. Unfortunately the Iron Snakes had once again been blindsided by the ferocity of the orkish light armour and found their left
flank collapsed in short order. Ancient Aritas, the dreadnought, tried
his best to close the gap but the underhanded greenskins had salvaged
ceramite plating from somewhere and clad their vehicles to protect
themselves from his heavy plasma gun.

From there things went largely into the orks’ hands. Retaining the
initiative they pushed from the left and centre, succeeding on the
left, although a heroic defense by the marines stopped their filthy progresss in the centre.

On the right the assault marines had thought to take the high ground and rain grenades down on the greenskins before finishing things off with a charge
into their ranks. Unfortunately the marines overestimated their approach
and overshot their landings, missing the building and hitting in the
midst of the orks and gretchin instead. That went into a bloody melee.
After routing the gretchin with grenades that dragged on for the next
3 turns until it was down to one surviving assault marine to face off against the ork goffs.

The dreadnought tried to step in and shoot the damn scorcha, but
between the vehicle’s speed and the ablative armour upgrade, the holy warrior couldn’t
make any shots stick. Eventually in a rage, the dreadnought finally caught up to the ramshackle ork vehicle and rammed it in turn 3. Even that was touch and go, since the wartrukk the
badmoons were rolling in went on to ram the marine squads Mykanos. The
surviving marines of this assault were burnt by the scorcha. Squad Mykanos went down sqinging, but eventually was wiped out.

The devastators were killed in the drive-by from the scorcha
and the right was bogged down in a one sided slaughter. Things kept
getting worse and worse for the Iron Snakes. The ork ferocity overcame the divine protection of the Emperor as marine after marine fell while attempted to stop the green tide.
